How does this effect the way your site should flow?: or How to build our site for maximum "we-know-our-clients-and-what-they-like-" appeal. Are they looking for information that I am in a position to provide, (for example: Bills House of Hard Drives may be in a position to develop a technical information site, aside from their goal of selling computers) or do they probably know what they are looking for, and just need to find it (although the City of Portlands' informative site just might want to sell some leftover I love Portland bumper stickers- Ya never know). You may find your self fiting in to more than one of these catagories (or maybe none of them) and that is OK, as a matter of fact, that is more than OK, now you are diversified (or unique).

Either way, you need to know why people are at your site, only then can we determine what they are going to want once they get there! When was the last time you gave a website a bit of your time for no good reason? Sure, everybody goes online looking for shoes and ends up checking out a new tennis racket- thats not what we are talking about here- you were still looking for something that interests you; which brings us to the crux of this article: What does this site do and/or offer? Why should they stay? Okay, they may be looking for a beach ball, and you dont have beach balls, but even though you dont have beach balls, your layout should guide your client directly to what you DO HAVE! No matter what brings a person to your site, you want them to know what you have to offer. read on...

If nothing else but for future reference (add to favorites, anyone??). A person that gets to your site and stays there is giving you a level of trust that big companies spend decades and fortunes on gaining. They are saying "OK, I have scanned the home page, and everything seems to be legit. I am looking for beach balls, but maybe I will check out this site for just a bit first." Proffesionally designed and laid out websites allow a person to do EXACTLY THAT. You may have noticed no notice towards slick graphics or flashy moving thingies. A wise web gal once said "Everyone wants to have a flash site, but nobody wants to visit one." ahh yes, everything in moderation.

Are they looking for information that you in a position to provide, (for example: medical, technical or legal advice) or do they probably know what they are looking for, and just need to find/ buy it, (if they know what they are looking for, our reccomendation is to GIVE IT TO THEM!)

  • A high tech website w/ alternative navigation and bleeding edge technology?
  • An intuitive site that facilitates ease of use and lets them get where they want to go as easily as possible
  • An informative site with lots of information related to topic at hand, where it will be likely that clients will research or browse around a bit. You have hard to find information or information related to obscure subjects that clients will FIND USEFUL TO HELP THEM IN SOME RELATED WAY.

Then we will determine what your clients are going to expect

Now Bad Croc! Media is going to figure out how to give it to them!

Step 2

why do they come to your site?

  • to shop?
  • to browse around, learn, interact w/other like minded people?
  • to find specific information: Technical advise, product reviews, news?
  • To research your product/ company before making a decision regarding your business.
